The Field Pilot Project

The liquid yield and quality benefits associated with IYQ Upgrading have been proven through rigorous testing at a 1 bbl/d scale, and the company has launched a 1,000 bbl/d Field Pilot project to demonstrate the operability of the technology at near-commercial scale.

A pre-feasibility study was completed in which greenfield, brownfield, and fully integrated options were evaluated.  The conclusion of the study was that an Alberta-based location with existing offsite and utilities was the most attractive option.

In 2012 a design basis memorandum for the preferred option was completed.  The scope of this exercise included complete heat and material balances, generation of process and instrumentation diagrams, a complete process simulation, and material take offs for most engineering disciplines.  A primary result of this exercise was a Class 3 (+30% / -15%) cost estimate.  The resolution provided by this effort sets the project on a firm footing as it is moved into the basic engineering phase.
