ETX Systems receives patent protection in Canada for the ETX Reactor

CALGARY, AB – Gerard Monaghan, CEO of ETX Systems Inc., is pleased to announce that the application for patent protection in Canada for the ETX Reactor has been accepted. The process for patent protection was started by Envision Technologies Corp. in the Fall of 2003. The patent was filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), which facilitates the application for protection in the signatory countries. As part of the procedure, a search for prior art and a written opinion on the patentability of the invention were issued by the International Search Authority (ISA). Following a positive report by the ISA, Envision Technologies entered the national phases in both the United States and Canada, the latter on an expedited basis. The patent in the United States is still pending.

"The success of our patent application in Canada represents a huge milestone for us. The heavy oil resources in Canada represent a significant fraction of the recoverable supply of unconventional oil available in the world. Hence Canada represents a major opportunity for the ETX Upgrader technology. If we could could choose one country where we would want protection, Canada would be it."

ETX Systems was incorporated with the explicit purpose of commercializing the ETX Upgrader. As part of this exercise all of the existing and pending intellectual property was transferred to the new entity. As a result the Canadian patent remains the property of ETX Systems, as does that pending in the United States. ETX Systems is still evaluating where the international opportunities are for the ETX Upgrader. This decision will determine what other countries the company will file for protection. Under the PCT the company must make this decision within the next few months.

ETX Systems Inc. is a fit-for-purpose private entity based in Calgary, AB, whose sole mandate is to commercialize its patented IYQ Upgrading technology. The process claims to deliver revolutionary yields and qualities relative to delayed coking, for significantly less cost per barrel. The increased production of high quality liquids leads to reduced environmental impact, leveraged through both the upstream and downstream scope.  For more information contact Gerard Monaghan, CEO of ETX Systems Inc.
